Each year in France, 50,000 people die from cardiac arrest, with only a 7% chance of survival. One of the most critical factors is time: the longer the delay in treatment, the lower the chances of survival.
Staying Alive helps save lives by improving the management of cardiac arrests through its community of trained first-aid volunteers.
In the event of an emergency, dispatch services can use the Staying Alive app to alert the nearest trained citizens among a community of 380,000 volunteer responders. When they agree to intervene, these citizens can provide first aid while waiting for emergency services to arrive or locate a nearby defibrillator.

Impact of the project:
As of spring 2025, Staying Alive counts 400,000 citizen rescuers in France, i.e. a 25% increase in one year. The service is present in 90 departments and has recorded 75,000 alerts since 2016, including 22,000 in 2024 (+44% in one year).
Staying Alive wanted to improve the use of its application to facilitate emergency response and maximize the chances of survival. With Share it’s support, the entire solution — both the back office and the mobile application — has been redesigned.
One of the major challenges was encouraging emergency services operators to use the back office more frequently, in order to increase the number of response triggers. Several improvements were implemented:
By boosting the use of the back office in the territories already covered, Staying Alive now enables emergency services to act more effectively and to trigger more interventions.
To maximize citizen rescuer engagement and improve responsiveness during emergencies, the mobile app was also redesigned:
Thanks to these enhancements, Staying Alive strengthens the impact of its system by improving coordination between emergency services and citizen responders. It is technology in the service of solidarity proving that together, we can save more lives.
